Dr. Nathan Kenya- Mugisha MBCHB, MMED, MPH

Dr. Kenya is a pediatrician and a public health specialist. He holds a degree in medicine (MBchB) and a Master’s Degree in Paediatrics and Child Health from Makerere University, Kampala; a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. 

He is currently the Executive Director of Walimu, a Ugandan and US registered NGO, established to improve the outcomes for severely ill patients at health facilities in low and middle income countries, through strengthening health systems so that a high standard of quality health care is achieved and is sustainable.

Dr. Nathan Kenya Mugisha, has held multiple senior leadership roles within the Ministry of Health, including the Director Health Services (Clinical and Community Health Services) from 2007 to 2011, the Director General Health Services from February 2010 to October 2011 and acting Permanent Secretary from February 2010 to July 2010. As a member of the Top Management Team at the Ministry, he has established lasting relationships with global leaders in the health sector, particularly in Africa. Dr. Kenya-Mugisha has collaborated with WHO IMCI, IMAI teams in Uganda over many years, and in the past 10 years, with the IMAI Alliance team as a technical advisor for the East African region as well as through the IMAI Alliance-Walimu partnership.

He has worked as a Lecturer in the Dept. of Pediatrics and Child Health, Makerere University; UNICEF Nairobi Regional Office as a Senior Project Officer (1998 to 2000), Malaria Consortium, Uganda (2011 to 2014) as a Project Manager. 

He has been the President of Uganda Medical Association twice, is the current Chair of the Board of Management of YouBelong in Uganda, is the immediate past president of the Uganda Health Care Federation (UHF), and is actively involved in many Uganda based organisations committed to strengthening social capital in Ugandan society and increasing the social and economic participation of its citizens.
